About this Animation
What you see here is a demonstration of an interpolated sprite animation using the DAIN algorithm. The animation on the right has 8 times as many animation frames as the original on the left. In other words, a 64-frame animation was generated from an 8-frame animation.

About the DAIN algorithm
DAIN (Depth-Aware Video Frame Interpolation) is an algorithm that can artificially increase the frame-rate of a video by generating new frames in between existing frames.
This algorithm was developed by 6 researchers at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in cooperation with Google and the University of California Merced

Video results tend to be very good.  Sprite animation results tend to be perfect.
Upscaling sprite art generally improves the results by allowing smaller movements between the apparent "pixels"
